Delhi High Court ne Thursday ko Wikipedia ko contempt of court notice diya jab ANI ne ek application file ki stating ki site ne court ke order ka compliance nahi kiya, jisme unke subscribers ka information disclose karna tha jo ANI Wikipedia page per “defamatory” edits kar rahe the.

Justice Navin Chawla ne kaha, “Main contempt impose karunga… Yeh Wikipedia ke India mein entity na hone ka sawal nahi hai. Hum aapka yahan ka business transactions band kar denge. Hum government se Wikipedia ko block karne ke liye kahenge.”

Wikipedia, jo advocate Tine Abraham ke through represent ho raha tha,

ne court ko bataya ki unhe kuch submissions karni hai aur unhone late appearance isliye kiya kyunki Wikipedia India mein based nahi hai.

Justice Chawla ne jawab diya, “Pehle bhi aap log yeh argument de chuke hain. Agar aapko India pasand nahi, toh yahan kaam mat kariye.”

Court ne Wikipedia ke ek authorized representative ko 25 October ko personally present hone ka order diya, jab matter ki agle hearing hogi.

HC ne ek defamation suit sun raha tha jo ANI ne file kiya, jisme Wikipedia per news agency ka “defamatory” description host karne ka ilzam hai. Description mein ANI ko criticize kiya gaya hai for being a propaganda tool for the central government, fake news websites ke content distribute karne aur events ko galat report karne ke liye.

News agency ne content ko remove karne aur monetary damages ki demand ki hai. ANI ne ye bhi ilzaam lagaya ki Wikipedia ke officials ne actively participate kiya edits ko remove karne mein aur content ko reverse karne se roknemein.
